Bioskop Rakyat: A Collaboration between PFN, Pos Indonesia & Bioskop Online
Description: A community-driven cinema initiative in Bandung, created in collaboration with PFN, Pos Indonesia, and Bioskop Online—bringing the experience of cinema to local audiences through accessible screenings of Indonesian films.
Year :
2025
Industry :
Entertainment
Client :
Bioskop Online x PFN x Pos Indonesia
Project Duration :
2 months

Problem:
In Indonesia, access to quality cinema experiences is often limited to major cities and commercial theaters, making it difficult for local communities to enjoy films in an accessible, affordable way. Many initiatives either lack strong collaboration or fail to create a sustainable model that truly connects with audiences.
There is a need for a community-centered cinema experience that brings films—especially local Indonesian movies—closer to people in Bandung through an engaging yet affordable format.

Solution:
The solution is to design Bioskop Rakyat as a user-centered community cinema experience that prioritizes accessibility and engagement. By focusing on simple, affordable ticketing and carefully curated local films, the initiative delivers the joy of cinema without the barriers of commercial theaters.
To ensure seamless execution, the product strategy emphasizes cross-stakeholder alignment between PFN, Pos Indonesia, and Bioskop Online. Clear role distribution, streamlined operations, and consistent branding create a cohesive experience, while continuous feedback loops from audiences help refine and sustain the program.

Challenge:
The main challenger is shifting audience behavior from commercial theaters and online streaming toward a community-driven cinema experience. As a Product Manager, the task is to position Bioskop Rakyat as a valuable alternative; balancing affordability, cultural relevance, and user delight while ensuring alignment across PFN, Pos Indonesia, and Bioskop Online.
Another challenge is gathering a new and segmented user base with offerings that must feel truly unique. Because the target audience is niche, user research becomes more complex, requiring careful discovery to capture real needs and motivations. On top of that, several stakeholders come from the boomer generation and are not as tech-savvy, making communication and alignment more demanding, even though execution is supported by millennial and Gen Z teams.
Summary :
The Bioskop Rakyat project is a community-first initiative in Bandung, created through collaboration between PFN, Pos Indonesia, and Bioskop Online. As Product Manager, my focus was on balancing user needs, stakeholder alignment, and operational execution to deliver a cinema experience that is affordable, culturally relevant, and engaging.
The project required navigating challenges such as segmented and hard-to-research user groups, introducing fresh yet simple offerings, and bridging generational gaps among stakeholders, where boomers were less tech-savvy while execution was driven by millennial and Gen Z teams. Despite these complexities, the outcome demonstrated how structured product thinking and cross-functional collaboration can turn a bold cultural idea into a sustainable community experience.
